It’s been almost three years since our FooTable jQuery plugin first went public. If you’re not familiar, it’s a responsive data table plugin. We were lucky enough to have an introductory post published on CSS-Tricks.com and we credit that visibility to the extremely wide adoption of FooTable that we still see today.

A lot has changed in those three years and we’ve been anxious to make this post for a long time. We’re very pleased to report that FooTable v3 has been released and it’s available free right here.

This is a major update from the previous version and makes creating responsive data tables even easier and more satisfying for developers.

What’s New

FooTable v3 is a complete rewrite of the previous codebase that allowed us to push the limits of speed. Here are some highlights.

  • FooTable can now handle up to 100,000 rows of data instead of the previous 1,000 row limit.
  • Now Ajax-friendly and loads data asynchronously.
  • Bootstrap 4 alpha tested!
  • Inline editing – coming soon!

FooTable is available in three download formats

  • Bootstrap – Compiled and minified CSS and JavaScript for use with Bootstrap.
  • Standalone – Compiled and minified CSS and JavaScript for standalone use (no Bootstrap).
  • Individual Components – Compiled and minified CSS and JavaScript for all components of FooTable.

What’s Next for FooTable?

FooTable jQuery is made for developers but what about our WordPress-loving users who prefer to point and click in order to create advanced responsive data tables? We’ll have you covered soon.

The current FooTable v2 has been available as a WordPress plugin for some time and now that the jQuery portion of v3 is finished, we’ve already begun work on porting that into an new and improved FooTable WordPress plugin.

The FooTable v3 WordPress plugin will include many more features, including a table builder and inline editing capabilities. We’re very excited about this new version and will be posting progress updates here so be sure to subscribe to our mailing list to stay up-to-date.
