FooBox is the best lightbox plugin for WordPress. We firmly believe that to be true, and with the upcoming FooBox 2.2 release, this is more accurate than ever before.
iOS7 Navigation Bar Bug Fixed
When Apple released IOS7 they made some rather interesting changes to Safari, in our case the main issue was how the address and bookmark bars now toggle onto the screen as well as some positioning issues related to it. Basically, when the address and bookmark bars toggle onto the screen they no longer trigger a resize event like they did in earlier IOS versions. So now, there is roughly 40px of space lost on the screen that FooBox couldn’t account for because the resize event no longer triggers.
This particularly affected FooBox and our tap and click events on the top and bottom of the screen, specifically our Social Icon buttons, navigation buttons, and captions.
Our own FooBox Developer Steve Usher, identified the issue through A LOT of research and testing and was the mastermind behind this fix for FooBox.
If you’re the developer-type and want to read the nitty gritty of the entire issue, and the fix, read his very detailed post about it here.
The Best Lightbox Navigation Ever Available on Mobile Devices
It’s hard to express just how excited we are to tell you about this new feature!
Let’s just show you a before and after picture…
Before and After
There are a few things to notice in that before and after image:
Streamlined Navigation Combined
The navigation arrows, slideshow play button, and lightbox close button all now reside in one minimal bar across the top of your mobile device screen.
This leaves more room for the image itself and for your captions below.
You’ll also notice a new icon in that navigation bar…
That new icon is where all social sharing icons are now located. They no longer display automatically over top of your lightbox content.
After clicking the social icon, your social sharing channel options will overlay the image like this:
The border has been removed from the lightbox edges for a bit more room and better focus on your content.
Behind the Scenes Changes
We’ve also made a couple other changes for better compatibility with other plugins and to set up FooBox for better extensibility for some future plugins and projects we’re working on.
- Increased the modal z-index to make sure FooBox stays on top of all page content.
- Added some filters and actions in prep for additional FooBox extensions.
